Released today, Thursday 10 September 2020, the Royal Melbourne Hospital’s scrub choir’s latest rendition. Today is World Suicide Prevention Day and in Australia, today is also R U OK Day? So very moving and beautiful and uplifting.

“Everybody has that point in their life where you hit a crossroads and you’ve had a bunch of bad days and there’s different ways you can deal with it and the way I dealt with it was I just turned completely to music.”

Taylor Swift

Please note, they’ve performed this at home in their personal time, or at the end of their shift, or when they’ve been able to take a moment out of their busy day. They’ve followed strict infection control measures. Those without masks, as one of their staff explained in news coverage today, filmed at home in their personal time.

Royal Melbourne Hospital has a special music therapy programme that is integrated into their hospital environment and patient care. Pretty awesome, huh?

Scrub Choir 2.0 is here, with over 400 RMH Staff members singing “I’ll stand by you” by The Pretenders.

Led by Music Therapy Director Dr Emma O’Brien OAM, the Scrub Choir has been an opportunity for staff at the RMH to take a moment out of their busy day, or after a shift on the COVID-19 wards to unwind and reflect.

Many people who participated found it a therapeutic experience. Some highlights of this latest instalment include some of our RMH Doctors in a string quartet, Nurse Kathy who leads the song in AUSLAN, and many of our interpreters and nurses sharing their native language.

We hope you enjoy our gift to you. And please, look after yourself. Help and support is available. Please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 for immediate assistance. In an emergency call 000.
